We can't do much, but we can make sure that 70 servicemen and women don't freeze their hands.

With this sentence the Protestant Youth Annaberg started a support donation project their Israeli friends from the youth exchange project "be human".

How did it come about?

60 hours before Hamas started the war in Israel in October, group leader Thomas Hecking flew back to Germany with the youngsters from Annaberg. Many of the young people are in good contact with their Israeli host families. Of course, the connection to the Israeli leaders is also special, as they have known each other for many years. Their friend Dvir was called up to the reserves after October 7 and is stationed in northern Israel, where it can get cold in winter. He reported on the situation and the problems of his unit. There is a lack of equipment, warm winter clothing, warm gloves, socks, etc. The army units receive support from the population, but there are simply not enough gloves. This gave them the idea of collecting donations to buy gloves for his unit. In a very short time, around 30 people/young people donated 2,100 Euro. Their friends in Israel reported exactly the right gloves and sizes and they were able to order them in Germany. This turned out to be the most difficult part of the campaign, as such products are also hard to come by in Germany. One company was able to offer them a large discount and obtain the gloves from another company in Sweden.
