Stadtjugendring Buxtehude Keeps in Touch With Israeli Partners Despite the State of Emergency
80 young people and adults from Buxtehude have taken part in an exchange with Israel since 2015. Since the Hamas attack, their Israeli friends have been living in a state of emergency. Two people from Buxtehude talk about how they maintain contact.
Buxtehude residents want to travel to Israel in July
Twelve young people from Buxtehude would like to meet up with their exchange partners from the Israeli Mediterranean city of Netanya from July 21 to August 5, 2024. The first week will be in Israel, the second week in Germany. In the planned time frame, the vacations in Israel and the summer vacations in Lower Saxony coincide.
Despite the state of war in the Middle East and its unpredictable consequences: The people of Buxtehude are not giving up on next year's exchange and are continuing with the planning. "In terms of mentality, the Israelis are last-minute planners," says Achim Biesenbach, adding that he hopes the Israeli partners will be able to resume the exchange program at short notice.

A broad political alliance sent a powerful and emotional signal of solidarity with Israel in Buxtehude on October 14. 180 people responded to an appeal. Police and state security were on alert and many tears were shed.
Politicians Want Partnership With Israeli City
Solidarity with Israel and commemoration of the Jewish victims of the Reichspogromnacht in 1938: the CDU, SPD, Greens and FDP want a town twinning with an Israeli city. There was also a vigil in front of Buxtehude town hall on November 9.
