The attacks of terror organization Hamas on Israel on October 7 and the following war have deeply affected and shaken Israeli society. The events and the war in the Middle East are also resonating in Germany. Antisemitic incidents and statements, distorted images of Israel and the Middle East conflict, which also challenge youth and educational work in Germany, are on the rise. A new situation is also arising for German-Israeli youth exchange and there is a need to open up spaces for discussion in order to exchange views on developments and changes in Israel and Germany. There is a need for intensive joint reflection on how the current events of October 7 can be incorporated into bilateral educational work before, during and after the encounters and what framework young people will now need for good encounters.
