The Impact of October 7 on Children and Youth
Many of those affected by the Hamas terror of October 7 are young. In an interview with German newspaper "Die Welt" Tal Madar from the Council of Youth Movements in Israel describes the psychological impact of the images and reports of the atrocities on children and young people:
On October 7, they were confronted with an endless stream of videos, photos and reports. In the first few hours, they were bombarded with unfiltered information. This can lead to so-called secondary trauma, the exact extent of which we cannot yet estimate. Many children are completely changed, are quiet or withdrawn. It is important that we take this on board – also in order to pass on our humanitarian and democratic values, especially in this situation.
The interview was arranged by ConAct – Coordination Center German-Israeli Youth Exchange.
